Dennis Carl Johnson's Obituary
Dennis Carl Johnson, the son of Jared E. and Pearl W. (Parker) Johnson, was born September 10, 1942, in Oakland, IA. He died November 22, 2017, at Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE, at the age of 75 years, 2 months, and 12 days.
Dennis attended school at Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School with the class of 1960. After graduating, he worked at Ruback's Grocery Store for several years before enlisting in the United States Air Force. On August 27, 1964 he was united in marriage to Patricia Cooney at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Four children were born to this union: Jeffrey, Michael, Jim, and Pamela. Dennis and Patricia lived in Cheyenne, WY, while he served in the Air Force. After being honorably discharged, Dennis and Patricia moved back to Oakland for a short time. They then moved to Des Moines, and Dennis began working as a dispatcher for Polk County. He then began working for The State of Iowa as a dispatcher and they lived in Olwein and Cedar Falls. In 1987 Dennis moved to Griswold and ran the State Patrol Dispatch Office near Lewis. After Dennis retired from the State in 1999, he started working for Air Methods as a Medical Communication Specialist. He retired after four years. Dennis lived at home in Griswold until the time of his death.
Dennis was an avid bowler and golfer. He had bowled a 300 game and had shot a hole in one. He loved to barbeque and was known for his famous onion rings. Dennis was a diehard Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents; and his great grandchild Rae Lynn.
He is survived by his wife Patricia of Griswold; his children: Jeffrey of Omaha, NE, Michael and wife Nancy of Altoona, IA, Jim Johnson and Paula Hinchey of Kansas City, MO, and Pamela Casey and husband Trent, of Treynor, IA; his grandchildren: Anthony, Alissa, Austin, John, Tyler, Nicole, Rya, Jordan, Chandler, Trevor, Rhylee, and Tanner; his great grandchildren: Mabry, Nile, Cashton, Weston, Laramie, William; and his brothers and sisters: Jerry Johnson and wife Carol, Tom Johnson and wife Donna, Donella Carpenter and husband Jim, and Zeta Proskocil and husband Rich. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 PM at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Interment will be at a later date. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
