De Anne Schaaf, the daughter of Richard Kent and Linda Jean (Dunn) Mertz, was born May 10, 1968 in Omaha, NE. She died September 6, 2018 at University Hospital in Omaha, NE, at the age of 50 years, 3 month, and 27 days.
De grew up in Logan and then moved to Red Oak before the eighth grade. She graduated from Red Oak High School with the class of 1986. After graduating she started a career in child care. On November 8, 1991, she was united in marriage to Jeff Schaaf in Red Oak. Two children were born to this union, Colton and Caleb. De continued providing child care and then began working for Griswold Community School. Because of her love of animals, she then began working for Dr. Lew Boucher. Most recently, she worked at Cass County Animal in Atlantic.
De loved taking care of her two boys and her husband. She enjoyed baking, camping, shopping, and spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her father-in-law Lyle Schaaf; her grandparents; her uncle Robert Dunn; her aunt Jane Ann Sprinkle; and her cousin Trevore Dunn.
She is survived by her husband Jeff of Griswold, IA; her sons Colton and Caleb of Griswold, IA; her parents Richard "Dick" and Linda Mertz of Red Oak, IA; her sister Diana Jacobsen and husband Dallas of Peterson, IA, and their children: Thomas, Tielar, and Tristan; her brother Doug Mertz of Red Oak, IA, and his children McKenna and Tanner; and her mother-in-law Barb Schaaf of Elliott, IA; She is also survived by many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott. Visitation with the family will be at the Central Church of Christ on Tuesday evening from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. Casual attire is requested at the visitation and the funeral. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
