Daryl Dee "Jack" Slama, the son of Earl H. and Onah J. (Hair) Slama, was born November 6, 1930 at Sac City, IA. He died at his home near Griswold, IA July 9, 2016 at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 3 days.

Jack attended school in Early, IA graduating from Early High school with the class of 1948. Jack was drafted into the Army and served his county in Korea during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged, Jack returned to Early, IA where he began working for his father doing construction. On February 27, 1971 he was united in marriage to Donna Jean Ashbaugh in Early, IA. They lived on Donna's family farm west of Griswold where Jack began farming. Jack farmed until his retirement. He continued to live on the farm until the time of his death.

Jack was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church and the Early, Iowa V.F.W. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, watching sports, and walking.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister Donna Bohms of Clive, IA; his step children: Mike (Diane) Ashbaugh of Council Bluffs, IA, Kathy (Obert) Heilaman of Grove, OK, Janiece Jensen of Denver, CO, Pam Binns of Red Oak, IA, and Keith (Jan) Ashbaugh of Fairfax, MO; his step grandchildren; his step great grandchildren; his step great great grandchildren; his niece Rhonda Cook of Bentonville, AR; his great nephews, Sean (Emily) Lauver of Clive, IA and Jason Lauver of Albuquerque, NM; his great niece Caryn Wood of Steamboat Spings, CO; his great great niece and nephew, Jacob and Ellie Lauver; and his cousin Sherry Busch of Sac City, IA.

Memorial services will be held at the Griswold United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at the Griswold Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Church following the services at the cemetery. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
