Daryl Lynn Dorsheimer, the son of Coryell LeRoy "Corky" and Lois Nadine (Elliott) Dorsheimer, was born August 29, 1952, in Creston, IA. Daryl died December 18, 2023, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA, at the age of 71 years, 3 months, and 20 days.
Daryl was baptized on February 2, 1964, at the Lewis Church of Christ He attended school in elementary school in Lewis, junior high school in Elliott, and then graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1970. After graduating, Daryl farmed with his father. Daryl lived in the Lewis area his entire life. He moved to the family farm when he was one year old and lived there until he was 68 years old, when he retired. He then bought a condo in Atlantic and enjoyed the freedom of spending time with family and friends. After moving, he still shared a few head of cattle with Dan and Jessica Olson, who had purchased the farm.
Daryl loved farming and considered it his hobby. He also had learned to do some welding with Weirich Welding in Lewis and had worked for Bruce Potter in Griswold. He liked raising cattle and had belonged to the Beef Producers of Iowa. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, participating in events involving his church, and attending the YMCA. He had recently helped at the food pantry in Atlantic and Griswold. He loved helping people, especially those in need.
Daryl was preceded in death by his father Corky: his mother Lois: his nephew Scott Elliott Dorsheimer; and his great nephew Karter Matthew Green.
He is survived by his brother Dennis (Nancy) Dorsheimer of Ankeny, IA; sister Janis (Jeff) Kunze of Farragut, TN; nieces LeAnn Classen of Mead, Kansas, Tonia Shaw of Farragut, TN, and Dawn Scanlon of Newton, IA; nephew Eric (Jamie) Kunze of Panora, IA; plus, numerous great nephews, nieces, and cousins. Daryl also had a special relationship with Ann Zaiger who he cared for like a daughter, and she considered him to be a second dad. That special relationship extended to Ann's husband, Jason, and their children, Joseph, Elijah, Elizabeth, and Abigail, who he loved like his own grandchildren.
A funeral service for Daryl will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the First Church of Christ in Atlantic, IA. Visitation with the family will be held at the church on Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 6-8 PM. Lunch will immediately follow the funeral at the church. Interment will be in Whipple Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Friday. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
