Brockman

Darwin Theodore Brockman, the son of Theodore John Henry and Dorothy Edith (Hough) Brockman, was born April 20, 1938, in Oakland, IA.
Darwin passed away, surrounded by family, at his home in Hancock, IA, on May 28, 2022, at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 8 days.
On July 18, 1956, he was united in marriage to Viola Hendrix, at the Carson United Methodist Church.
Darwin was a hard worker from the start. After his time in the Army, Darwin worked odd jobs until he started driving quarry equipment for Shellbergs. In 1965, he started his career with Stempel Implement in Avoca, where he was regarded as one of the best tractor mechanics in the area. His experience there led him to a ten-year career as the lead Ag mechanics instructor at Iowa Western Community College. After his time at the college, Darwin and Viola bought and operated the Sirloin Cellar Steakhouse in Avoca. Darwin rounded out his work career by working at Skyjack in Atlantic in their research and development department. After his retirement form Skyjack, he worked for Dean Kock and Chuck Swope, helping them during planting and harvesting.
Darwin is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Doreen.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Viola of Hancock, IA; his children: Mike Brockman of Council Bluffs, IA, Tammi Kroll and husband Tom of Seattle, WA, and Chad Brockman and wife Angie of Atlantic, IA; his grandchildren: Dean Kroll and wife April of Melissa, TX, Dusty Kroll of Seattle, WA, Linsey McCarthy and husband Evan of Avoca, IA, Tausha Kroll of Seattle, WA, Justyn Stuck of Council Bluffs, IA, Sophia Brockman of Seattle, WA, Izzy Brockman of Atlantic, IA, and Ike Brockman of Atlantic, IA; his great grandchildren: Flynn, Kellan, and Mara McCarthy, and Talon, Tinzley, Tryce, and Trinity Kroll; his great grand dog Kilo James; and his brother Durward Brockman Darwin is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Wednesday June 1, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery at Hancock. Visitation with the family will start at 11:30 AM (following the graveside service), at the Olson Lodge at Botna Bend Park in Hancock. Lunch will be served at noon. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
