DARLENE MABEL FRIZZELL


Darlene M. Frizzell, the daughter of James Donald and Rose Della Hazel (Cron) Nelson, was born January 5, 1932 at Atlantic, IA and died January 21, 2011 at her home in Oakland, IA at the age of 79 years, and 16 days.


Darlene attended and graduated from school at Atlantic. On September 25, 1949 she was united in marriage to Calvin H. Frizzell. They moved East of Oakland where they farmed the family farm. They moved in to Oakland in 1953. Darlene worked at the Oakland High School for several years and then began working for the town of Oakland as the city clerk. After seventeen years of service to the city of Oakland, Darlene retired. She continued to live in Oakland during the winter and spent her summers at their Lake Cabin in Northern Minnesota.


Darlene was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful artist and especially enjoyed painting. After her retirement, Darlene and Calvin enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Minnesota and Alaska. Darlene also enjoyed fishing and reading.


Darlene is preceded in death by her husband Calvin, her parents, and her sisters, Dorothy Chamberlin and Patricia Marsh.


She is survived by her children Richard James Frizzell and his wife Dr. Linda Bane Frizzell of Laporte, MN, Randall L. Frizzell of North Pole, AK, and LeEllen Parker and husband Bill of Reinbeck, IA; her grandchildren: William, Tracy, Audra, Austin, Wesley, Shawn, Cory, and Kelly; her great grandchildren: Sophia, Anthony, twins-Calvin and Charollette, Quinlan, Keira, and Amelia: her sister Jeanie Nippert and husband Duane; and her brothers, Donald Nelson and wife Pat and Roger Nelson and wife Joyce. Darlene is also survived by many other relatives and friends.


A memorial service will be held at the Oakland United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 10:30 AM. Lunch and visitation with the family will take place immediately following the memorial service. There will be no visitation at the funeral home before the memorial services. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
