Duane "Dan" Allen Petersen

Duane "Dan" Allen Petersen, the son of George and Loree (Petersen) Fitch, was born December 13, 1930 in Omaha, NE and died August 8, 2012 at Omaha, NE at the age of 81years, 7 months, and 26 days.

Dan attended Central High School, graduating with the class of 1949. After graduating, he was in the Navy before returning to Omaha. He went into the family business by becoming an electrician and eventually the owner of Armature and Electric. On February 18, 1955 he was united in marriage to Nancy Jepson and they were married twenty years. In 1977, Dan moved to Oakland, IA. On March 4, 1978 he married Bonnie Nix. Several years ago, Dan moved back to Omaha to be closer to his children. He lived in Omaha until the time of his death.

Dan enjoyed boating, and hunting. He loved cars and was a Cadillac Aficionado. Dan was a member of the Shriners and the Royal Navy of Nebraska He was the last surviving member of twelve men that purchased the USS Hazard and towed it back to Omaha, where it still is today at Freedom Park.

Dan is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie; his parents; and his step-children, Chuck Heise and Susie Copenhaver.

He is survived by his children: Mark Petersen, Brian Petersen and wife Jenny, and Jane Petersen all of Omaha; his grandchildren: Nick, Alex and wife Molly, Julia, Erin, Megan, and Joey; and his special friends Bill and Nancy Cain.

Memorial services will be held on August 11, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
