Originally from Oakland Iowa, Dale was born unto Robert and Arlene Haines on January 8, 1949, and who preceded him in death along with his sister Marlene, his nephew Troy, and his brother-in-law Jim White. He is survived by his life companion Becky Wetenkemp, sister Marilyn White and her children Jeff and Deanna, brother Verlin Haines and wife Donna and their children Donovan and Timothy, and Dale's three children and 7 grandchildren in Arizona; son Dale Haines Jr and wife Darla with their sons Dustin and Dylan and Dustin's wife Jenny, daughter Rochelle Intrieri and husband Thom with their children Brooklynn, Annabelle and Luke, and daughter Makahla Gollihar and husband George with their sons Elijah and Gage. Dale is also survived by Becky's children; Mary Anderson and her children Jaycie, Timothy, and Austin, and Marty Wetenkamp and his children Lexi and Colten. Dale leaves behind many cousins and dear friends he all considered as family.
Most recently, Dale was retired and living in Plattsmouth Nebraska.
Dale grew up and attended school in Oakland Iowa and attended Sunday School at Oakland Methodist Church where he was confirmed. Dale and Becky were classmates since kindergarten. Becky slapped him in 1st grade for tearing up love letters from her boyfriend (who was also his best friend), but he forgave her.
As Dale's love of auto racing grew, it culminated in his building of cars and competing in drag racing events where he won several championships and earned the name Billy Drag Pipe. Dale worked the family farm with his dad, Robert, and was a member and officer of FFA in High School. He played football and wrestled for Oakland High as well. He was a member of the Oakland Optimists.
After attending Oakland High School, Dale enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam from 1968-1969.
Dale moved with his family from Iowa to Arizona in 1984. He later returned to Iowa in 2003.
He loved his family, the mid-west, fast cars, and nature. After his return to the mid-west, Dale reconnected with Becky. Since then, the two had taken on many adventures together and enjoyed their quiet time as well. They would ride horses on her family farm and watch for eagles to fly over. Dale remained active throughout his life still having fun with the family jumping into the pool and was determined to water ski again. He recently worked on his go-cart and got it up and running for his grand-kids' next visit. He would always have a good stockpile of fireworks for every 4th of July. Dale was the kind of Dad who taught his kids everything from doing chores to changing the oil, playing sports (even soccer), and most importantly how to love unconditionally. He was a devoted Grandpa to all of his grandkids.
Dale's occupations over the years included farming, sales, landscaping, clothing manufacturing, metal art, and keeping up with Becky. He was a devoted Dale Earnhardt NASCAR fan, loved the Beatles, and budding chef. During his retirement, Dale developed a woodworking hobby of making custom American flags, in which he took great pride in supporting those who serve our nation and communities.
