Cornelia Christine Williams was born November 7, 1922 in Bristow, OK. She died March 31, 2016 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA at the age of 93 years, 4 months, and 24 days.
Christine was one of eight children; having six sisters and one brother. She attended country school through the 12
th
grade, graduating from high school in 1941. She moved to the family farm when she married Richard Everett. They had two children, Bobbie Jo and Don Everett. Chris divorced Richard Everett and moved to Concord, CA in 1945. Her first job in California was rolling barrels of oil. She modeled for Camille Donet when she was 23 years old. After that, she became a truck driver for the Army Corps of Engineers. She met Mel Fareas while they were dance instructors for Arthur Murray. She married Mel Fareas in 1949. They had one child, Charmaine. Chris divorced Mel in 1956.
After working 18 years as a meat wrapper for Lucky's Grocery Store, Chris quit in 1966 to marry Ray Williams. They moved to Oakland, IA. At the age of 48, Chris went to beauty school and Ray and Chris operated the Beauty Cove in Oakland from 1967 until 1978. They also had a beauty shop in Red Oak, IA called Charmaine's Coiffures for one year. Chris also worked for a short time as a realtor in Iowa.
In 1978, Ray and Chris sold the Beauty Cove and moved to Las Vegas, NV, where they had a beauty salon for a short time. Chris worked in the beauty salon while Ray worked as a slot machine foreman at the Mint Casino. After they sold the Las Vegas beauty salon in 1981, Chris worked as a change girl at the Four Queens Casino and later managed the gift shop in Caesar's Palace. Ray and Chris owned five homes in Las Vegas and two in Bullhead, AZ to supplement their retirement income. Chris moved to Oakland, IA after Ray died in 2006. In 2008, she moved in with Charmaine in Council Bluffs, IA. She lived with Charmaine for four years and then assisted living for one and a half years. Her last residence was at the Bethany Lutheran Home for two years.
Chris enjoyed reading and listening to world politics on CNN.
She is preceded in death by one grandchild and one great grandchild.
She is survived by her children: Bobbie Jo Sorich, Don Everett, Colleen Johnson, and Charmaine Fareas; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and her brother-in-law Earl Williams and his wife Jackie.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church in Oakland. Interment will be in the Belknap Cemetery west of Oakland. There will be no visitation or viewing at the funeral home. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
