Charles Wynn Pierce, the son of Orval and LaVila (Clark) Pierce, was born May 24, 1933, in Council Bluffs, IA. He died June 3, 2017 in Oakland, IA, at the age of 84 years and 10 days.
Charlie graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1951. On June 7, 1953, he was united in marriage to Dona Joan Campbell in Atlantic, IA. Four children were born to this union: Terry, Becky, Jerry, and Tami. Charlie entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Oakland, where he continued farming with his grandfather. He and Dona farmed east of Oakland until 1977, when they moved into Oakland. Donna died March 21, 2002. Charlie continued to live in Oakland until the time of his death.
Charlie was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, Coral Lodge #335 A.F. & A.M., the Tangier Shrine in Omaha, the American Legion, and the Saddle Club. He enjoyed helping with the Carson Rodeo and going to garage sales. Charlie was a well-known auctioneer, and had done auctions all over, and many fund raisers. Charlie especially love spending time at his lake home.
Charlie is preceded in death by his wife Dona Joan; his grandson Abe; and his parents.
He is survived by his children: Terry Pierce and wife Deb, Becky Pierce, Jerry Pierce and wife Suzanne, and Tami Skank and husband Sid, all of Oakland; his grandchildren Erin (Adam), Carey (Cirillo), Randi (Wes), Jamie (JB), Corey, Justin, Jordan (Sayla) Adam, Jenna, Jared (Heather) Brianna, and Lisa (Chris); 23 great grandchildren; and his sister Donna Jo Wright and husband Marion. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church in Oakland. A masonic service will be held at the church on Tuesday at 4:30 PM. Visitation with the family will follow the masonic service until 7:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
