Charles Luther Hicks, the son of Donald and Doris (Watts) Hicks, was born July 17, 1956 in Fort Ord, CA and died May 20, 2015 at the Glenwood Hospice House, in Glenwood, IA at the age of 58 years, 10 months, and 3 days.
Charles moved to Missouri at a very young age and lived there for several years before moving to Council Bluffs, IA. He attended school in Council Bluffs, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. After graduating, he worked at several different jobs before becoming employed by ASARCO as a smelter. He worked for ASARCO for almost twenty years before failing health caused him to retire. After his retirement, he worked at Ruback's in Oakland for six years.
Charles was a member of the Oakland Christian Church and Knights of Pythias Big Grove Lodge #226. He loved sports, especially playing softball, watching football, and fishing. He really enjoyed listening to music.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents.
His is survived by his children, Daisy Fichter and husband Nick of Oakland and Justin Hicks and wife Emily of Minot, ND; his grandchildren: Danzel, Jack, Sophia, Bella, and Ivy; his brothers: Jeff Hicks and Andrea of Harlan, IA, Jay Hicks and Paula Meyers of Harlan, IA, and John Hicks of Omaha, NE; his sisters: Sheryl Hicks Martinez of Hamburg, IA, Janet Hicks and Ray Campbell of Ehrenberg, AZ, and Donna Hicks Fink of Council Bluffs, IA; and the mother of his children, Janet Wilcox. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 at the Oakland Christian Church. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
