Charlene Mae (King) Dorscher

Charlene Mae (King) Dorscher died Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, IA at the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 7 days.
Charlene was born June 1, 1930 at her family's home in Pottawattamie County, IA to Claude and Mary (Hering) King. She was united in marriage to Leo "Doc" Dorscher on June 1, 1948. Five children were born to this union: Linda, Larry, Lewis, Lyle and Luann.

Charlene and Leo made their home in the rural Hancock and Oakland area until 1964, when they moved to a farm south of Lewis. She worked at the Atlantic Care Center in the laundry department, and retired as supervisor after 17 years. Leo died April 8, 2005. Charlene continued to live on the farm until June 19, 2010 when she moved to Atlantic Nursing and Rehab in Atlantic.

Charlene was known as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and gardening. After moving to Atlantic, she enjoyed playing bingo, getting a manicure, and seeing new and old friends.
Charlene is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sons, Lewis and Lyle, her daughter Linda Kunze, her brothers: Clarence, Eldon, and Gerald, and her sister Dora King.

She is survived by her children Larry Dorscher and wife Rosalee of Griswold, and Luann Finnell and husband Don of Atlantic; her son-in-law Roger Kunze of Pensacola, FL; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law, Iola Steiber of Henderson and Peggy Taylor and husband Lawrence "Bud" Taylor of Oakland. Charlene is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
