Carol Fredrick Johnk, the son of Theodore and Gladys (Sankey) Johnk, was born November 12, 1932, in Walnut, IA.  He died March 16, 2022, at the Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, TX, at the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 4 days.

Carol graduated from Oakland High School and then began farming in 1951.  He was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church, the Farm Bureau, the Masonic Lodge 412 and was a member of the Lion's Club.  He and Joan Eblen married on December 31, 1949, in Hiawatha, KS. To this union, a son, Bruce, and a daughter, Patrice were born.  They farmed for 29 years in the rural Carson area and Carol sold insurance for Farm Bureau from 1969 until 1979. In 1983, they moved to Griswold and started a real estate and insurance business.    He operated Griswold Insurance Company until 1991.  After retiring from insurance, he ran an antique store until 1998. Joan died on March 22, 2010.

Carol married Vivian (Wagner Swearns) on March 10, 2019, on the shuffleboard court in Weslaco, TX. They lived in Griswold and wintered in Texas until the time of his death.

Carol is preceded in death by his wife Joan; his parents; and his  brothers, Don and Ted.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; his son, Bruce Johnk and wife Marcelyn of Atlantic, IA;  his daughter, Patrice Vance and husband Charles of Oakland, IA; his grandchildren: Melissa Knoell and Jennifer Wenz; and his great grandchildren: Caleb, Ashley and Amber Knoell, and Avery and Kaden Wenz.  Carol is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service for Carol will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 10:00 AM, at the Griswold United Methodist Church in Griswold, IA.  Visitation with the family will take place at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.  Lunch will be held at the church, immediately following the funeral service.  A private family interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland.  Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
