Obituary

Bryon Legg, 47, of the Griswold and Lewis area, died Wednesday morning, December 2, 2009, at his home in rural Lewis.

Bryon Legg was born at Phoenix, AZ on June 11, 1962, the son of Herbert Hoover and Victoria (Gonzalez) Legg. He attended school in Phoenix and when he was 14, the family moved to Payson, AZ, where he graduated from high school. Bryon attended college on a scholarship he received to pitch baseball. He then went to work in construction and became a foreman of a crew building homes. In 1989, he went to work for his brother Herb training Greyhound dogs for racing and then in 1994 started his own kennel at Ft. Lupton, CO. In 2002, he, Linette and family moved to this area and later started a kennel here. Bryon truly enjoyed watching his dogs race. He was a member of the National Greyhound Assoc., the Iowa Greyhound Assoc. and the National Rifle Assoc.

Shortly after moving to this area, Bryon was instrumental in getting a place for the youth of the community to play baseball and softball and was the ringleader in getting the sports complex built on the east edge of Griswold. The Griswold city council recently named the complex the "Bryon Legg Sports Complex" in his honor. He spent hours helping with the Cass County Museum in every way, whether it be construction, electrical or whatever. Bryon loved youth. He coached basketball and softball and encouraged young people to get involved and do the best that they could do. Bryon enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and often you would find him helping one of the kids get started enjoying what he did. He was a "people pleaser."

His grandparents preceded Bryon in death.

Survivors include his fiancée of nearly 19 years, Linette Reuer of Lewis; his girls, Crystal, Chelsea, Cassidy and Certayn of Lewis; his father Herbert of Ft. Lupton, CO; his mother Victoria Ely and her husband Paul of Kentucky; and Linette's mother Faye Reuer of Rapid City, SD. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters: Gaylynn Breedlove and husband Phil of Ft. Lupton, Herb Legg and wife Karen of Ft. Lupton, Lynette Tuttle of Phoenix, AZ, and Brent Legg of Colorado as well a numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Griswold Community Building in Griswold. Burial will be in the Whipple Cemetery northwest of Griswold. Open visitation will be held also at the Griswold Community Building after 2:00 PM Friday and the family will be present from 6:00 to 7:30 that evening. The Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be given in Bryon's name.
