Bonnie Jean Redding, born on September 10, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa, passed away on September 13, 2025. She was a beloved resident of Elliott, IA, where she lived a life full of love and service. Bonnie was the wife of Bob Redding, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage. Together, they built a life on their farm between Elliott and Grant.
Bonnie's early education took place in a country school in rural Atlantic, and she graduated from Griswold High School in 1964. She furthered her education at NWMS Maryville for a year. Her career was diverse, including fond memories of working at Rodger's Café during high school, screen printing for a local shop, working at a greenhouse, and serving the Elliott post office for many years.
She was an active member of her community, participating in organizations such as T.O.P.S, GAB Club, Elliott Library Board, UMW, and United Women of Faith. Bonnie was also known for her volunteer work at the Griswold United Methodist Church and the Griswold Care Center.
Bonnie had a passion for gardening and reading, often sharing her love of books with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Bob, son Kevin (Melanie) Redding, daughter Emily (Bill) Kennedy, grandchildren Ariana Grace and Aiden William, and great-grandsons Daniel Scott and Layne Michael, brother Chuck Nelson, sister-in-law Pat Burgess, and many other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elmer Lawrence Nelson and Wilma Grace (Ferguson) Nelson, her parents-in-law John & Zeta Redding, and her brother-in-law Kenny (Banjo) Redding. Bonnie's legacy of love and service will be remembered by her family, friends, and community.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Griswold United Methodist Church, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Griswold Cemetery. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
