Bonnie Lea Hay, the daughter of John and Opal (Ennox) Lansing, was born September 1, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri. Bonnie died August 7, 2022, at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs, IA, at the age of 70 years, 11 months, and 6 days.
Bonnie attended school in St. Louis and graduated from East St. Louis High School in Illinois. While in high school, she began working for Southern Belle Telephone Company. On May 31, 1975, Bonnie was united in marriage to Robert William Hay, Jr., at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Three children were born to this union: Eric, Kyle, and Adam. Bonnie continued to work for several different phone companies, and she and Robert lived in many different locations, including Montana, California, Ohio, Missouri. They moved to Henderson, IA, in 1997, and Bonnie worked for Avaya Communications in Omaha. Bonnie retired from Avaya Communications in 2002. She then attended Iowa Western Community College where she received an associate degree. Bonnie began a second career as a paraprofessional at Thomas Jefferson High School. Failing health caused her to retire from this career. She and Robert then lived in several different places before settling in Council Bluffs.
Bonnie loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed celebrating special occasions with them. She enjoyed cross stitching, reading, and going to church.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, Eileen, and Frances.
She is survived by her husband Robert Hay of Council Bluffs, IA; her sons: Eric Hay of Lee Summit, MO, Kyle Hay of Fort Dodge, IA, and Adam Hay and wife Lori of Oakland, IA; her grandchildren: Abrianna, Alexandria, Rowan, Kennedy, Dakkotah, Aiden, Hunter, and Liam; her brother John Lansing of St. Louis, MO; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life memorial visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland, on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Interment will take place at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
