Bill Fred Bailey, the son of Harold and Leona (Morris) Bailey, was born November 6, 1928 near Griswold, Iowa and died February 20, 2015 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, 3, months, and 14 days.
Bill attended school at Macedonia through the 7
th
grade and then graduated from Carson High School with the class of 1947. Bill married his childhood sweetheart Lois Keast, on March 25, 1950. Three children were born this union: Wayne Bill, Darrell Thomas, and Delbert Brian. Bill and Lois farmed east of Oakland for 22 years before moving to town in 1972. Bill then became a Weigh Officer of the Department of Transportation for 21 years.
Bill was a member of the Oakland Congregational Church – UCC in Oakland. He spent his retirement traveling with Lois to see their family all over the country. He also enjoyed walking, reading western books, and putting puzzles of farm scenes and John Deere tractors together.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Gerald Bailey and wife Alice; his brothers-in-law Loren Kearney and James Bates; and his sister-in-law Laura Parker.
Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois of Oakland, IA; his children: Wayne Bailey and Nicolette of McMinnville, OR, Darrell Bailey and wife Lu of Altoona, IA, and Delbert Bailey and wife Nancy of Bellevue, WA; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his sister Clara Kearney of Oakland, IA; his sister-in-law Joyce Keast and husband Ed of Carson, IA; and his brother-in-law Gail Parker of Red Oak, IA. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at 1:30 PM at the Carson Cemetery at Carson, IA. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 PM at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
