November 18, 1924 – October 5, 2015
Betty June Conklin was born on November 18, 1924 on a farm near Lewis, Iowa. She went to be with her Lord and loved ones who had gone on before her, on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 90 years.
Betty attended Atlantic High School and graduated with the Class of 1942. On January 10, 1948, Betty was married to Clifford Conklin, Jr. in Jackson, Minnesota. To this union two daughters were born, Pat and Karen. She was a long time resident of Atlantic, Iowa and was a member of the First Atlantic United Methodist Church.
Betty was the head librarian at the Atlantic Public Library for many years. After retiring, Betty cared for her grandchildren and became a walking enthusiast, walking over 6 miles a day. She was an avid reader. She volunteered at the Atlantic First United Methodist Church and the Atlantic Food Pantry. She and her husband attended countless sports events that their grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. She took a memorable trip with family to Alaska. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and was always willing to help them in any way she could.
She was preceded in death by her husband Junior; her parents, Roy and Minnie Butler; her son-in-law, Rusty Ballinger; her grandchildren, Rebecca Blake and Brandon Williams; her brothers: Bobby Butler, Rex Butler, William Butler; her sisters: Phyllis Decker, Maxine Miller, and Ruthie Butler.
She is survived by her children Pat Saltmarsh of Atlantic, IA, and Karen Hoff and husband Jerry of Oakland, IA; eleven grandchildren; Ted Ballinger and wife Amy of El Mirage, AZ, Colleen Rausch and husband Darcy of Omaha, NE, Chris Saltmarsh and wife Vanessa of Clive, IA, Rachel Blake and husband Rob of Philadelphia, PA, Renee Blake of Omaha NE, Ryan Blake and partner Becka Thompson of Philadelphia, PA, Jay Hoff and wife Tina of Sumter, SC, Shane Hoff and wife Stacia of Janesville, IA, Holly Frary and husband Bob of Salem, IA, Jesse Hoff of Crystal Lake IA, Jamie Hoff of Klemme, IA,; twenty three great grandchildren: Laura, Jesse, Taylor, Scotty, Devon, Amanda, Zach, Jordan, Lucas, Gabby, Eva, Hunter, Shaye, Jacque, Christa, Matt, Spencer, Bailey, Sam, Charlie, Jayden, Raven, Jordyn; great- great grandchild, Bentley; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services for Betty will be held on Friday October 9, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, IA. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic on Thursday from 5-7 PM. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
