Betty (Elizabeth)
Ann Schuler
May 25, 1925 – December 13, 2020
Betty Schuler 95, widow of Kenneth Schuler passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Obituaries are usually written in a couple of different ways, either family or friends gather together, and list every minor accomplishment from cradle to grave in a timeline format, or they try to create one poetic last stanza about someone's life that is so glowing one would think the deceased had been the living embodiment of a deity. Let's be real she lived simply and she was in charge....if you doubt that, ask any of her kids.
Three hallmarks defined her life: Faith, Family and Farming.
She was one of six children of Roy and Edna Crum and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior as a young girl while attending the Presbyterian church in Griswold. Met the love of her life Kenneth and married him in 1942 and years later started a family of Wayne, Douglas, Keith, Janet and Susan. They farmed and enjoyed life.
Most of all she instilled the importance to say "thank you" to all the people who helped along the way. Those that loved her, assisted her, cared for her, laughed with her so that she could have a wonderful, happy life.
In the last few years, she frequently commented "It is what it is". What it is: is that at the end of this mortal toil, we go to walk in the heavenly garden with our Maker, you can probably imagine that she is checking to see if there are any weeds to be pulled and asking if it's time to milk the cows.
She is survived by one sister Helen; her children: Wayne Schuler and wife Karen of Council Bluffs, IA, Douglas Schuler and wife Yovonne of Venice, FL, Keith Schuler and wife Sandra of Modesto, CA, Janet Porter and husband Jim of Las Vegas, NV, and Susan Eberly and husband Terry of Clarinda, IA; and a truck load of grandchildren (16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren).
Her earthly body will be laid to rest on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 12:00 PM at the Noble Center Cemetery, south of Lyman. Masks will be required, and social distancing encouraged. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM. The family will not be present at any specific time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude's or Shriners Hospital. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
