Beatrice Mae "Bea" Albright, 89, of Griswold, IA, passed away Wednesday evening April 3, 2013 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA.
Bea was born on October 29, 1923 in Montgomery County, the daughter of Gus and Doris (McCaskey) Shellberg. She graduated from Elliott high school in 1941 and received her Normal Training Certificate in 1943. She taught school for two years at the Reece country school north of Griswold before she married Harold W. Albright on February 26, 1945 and they farmed near Griswold until his death in 1966. She worked for Glen Robin Orchard and Ross's Grocery Store before beginning work as the secretary to the guidance counselor Ivan Lynch in the Griswold High School. Many students over the years will remember spending time in Bea's office.
Bea was a devoted member of the Central Church of Christ in Griswold and shared her faith by teaching Sunday School for many years. She was also a past member of the Griswold Optimist Club and the Rebekah Lodge.
Bea was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always made special time for her family. She was a proud supporter of the educational pursuits and the many extracurricular activities of her family. Her sugar cookies and ice cream roll dessert were family favorites.
Bea was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold her mother-in-law and father-in-law Mervin and Velma Albright and her brother-in-law Harlan Buroughs.
Survivors include her daughter Judy VerSteegh of Ames, IA, her son Jim L. Albright and his wife Lorna of Griswold; her grandchildren Donna Stubberud of Roland, IA, Tom VerSteegh and wife Kim of Fort Worth, TX, Amy McLaren and husband Devin of Griswold and Alyson Peters of Anita, IA; her great-grandchildren Jessica Stubberud, Sydney and Cael McLaren, Kyler Jacobs and Elly Mae Peters. Also surviving is her sister Phyllis Buroughs of Griswold as well as her many beloved nieces, nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold, Tony Brandt officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery. Open Visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. The family will great friends at the luncheon at the church following the funeral and private family interment. A memorial fund has been established.
