Barbara Bain Walker, the daughter of John Ora Bain and Pauline Anna (Hirni) Miller, was born July 15, 1927, in Rockville, MO. She died November 10, 2017, at her home in Oakland, IA, at the age of 90 years.
Barb attended school in Rockville until her senior year. She moved to Topeka, where she graduated from high school. After graduation, she moved to Kansas City, where she began working for Sealtest Ice Cream. On February 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Walter L. Walker. They moved to Omaha, when Barb was transferred for her job. She continued to work for Sealtest and eventually became a Quality Control Specialist and then the Bookkeeper for the company. After leaving Sealtest, she worked for Dr. Gordon Fredrickson as his Office Manager until her retirement. Barb lived in Omaha until several years ago, when she moved to Oakland.
Barb enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, was an avid bingo player, and liked watching CNN. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Betty Jean Bain, and Jolyne Heiserman; and her brother Joseph Bain.
She is survived by her children, Linda Petersen of Oakland, IA, and Ron Walker and wife Mary of Lincoln, NE; her grandchildren: Pam Canavan and husband Steve of Lincoln, NE, Kris Salais of Oakland, IA, Katie Allen of Lincoln, NE, and Kimberly Burns and husband David of Las Vegas, NV; her great grandchildren: Deven Moore, Tyler Jennings and wife Katherine, Braeton Moore, Cole Moore, Justin Jennings, Ayden Salais, Harper Allen, Olivia Canavan, Margeaux Allen, and Walker Canavan; and her best friend Winnie Miller of Omaha, NE. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Private family interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Omaha, NE. Memorials may be given to St. Croix Hospice. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
