Arthur William "Bill" Dean's Obituary
Arthur William "Bill" Dean, the son of Vernon La Forest and Gladys Isabelle (Neer) Dean, was born July 25, 1926 east of Griswold, IA and died June 28, 2015 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE at the age of 88 years, 11 months, 3 days.
Bill graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1944. He enlisted in the Air Force and served as an airplane mechanic in Germany. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Griswold. On January 30, 1948 he was united in marriage to Wanda Elaine Bowes, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Griswold. They lived in Griswold where Bill ran his own painting business and built cabinets before going to work for Iowa Power as a lineman. Wanda died September 21, 2000. On August 18, 2005 he was united in marriage to Lois Lindvall. He moved to Atlantic and lived there until the time of his death.
Bill loved dancing, camping, traveling, and riding his bicycle. He was an excellent woodworker. He enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Wanda and his parents.
He is survived by his wife Lois of Atlantic; his children, "Cis" Bates and husband Randy of Griswold, and Steve Dean and wife Beverly of Newton; his step children David Lindvall of Audubon and Michael Lindvall and wife Stephanie of Omaha; his grandchildren: Chris Sanny, Shane Sanny and wife Mar'Quita, Zeb Sanny and wife Sarah, William Bates, Ashley Bates, Lacey Maxwell and husband Ryan, Lindsey McDonald and husband Ryan, Jeffery Dean, and Andrew Dean; nine great grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters: Daniel Dean and wife Bernice, Donald Dean, Patricia Donohoe, and Mary Langeand husband Bernie. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatvies and friends.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Griswold United Methodist Church. An open visitation will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Tuesday. The family will be present from 5:00 until 7:30 PM. Interment will be at the Griswold Cemetery. Military services will be provided by Griswold Legion Post #508. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
