Ardes M. Peebles, 86, of Griswold, IA, died Saturday morning, November 20, 2010, at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold.
Ardes Marie Riedemann was born in the Lyman vicinity on November 28, 1923, the daughter of George and Hilda Dorothy (Schrader) Riedemann. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1942 and on June 30, 1945 married Dale Edward Peebles at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak, IA. They made their home in Griswold and Ardes was a homemaker and later worked for various stores as well as assisting Dale in managing the Nishna Valley Recreation Area. Following Dale's death on March 2, 1980, she worked for Woldruff Jewelry and at Sandy's Dress Shop until her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and was always community minded, one year receiving the Good Neighbor Award. Ardes has been a resident of the Griswold Care Center for the last nearly 2 years.
Survivors include her son Larry (Jean) Peebles of Grinnell, IA, and her daughter Jan (Larry) Albert of Painesville, OH: her grandchildren; Shawnda (Tom) Tench of Olmsted Falls, OH, Shad (Sarah) Sungren of Rome, OH, Jana (Matt Innis) Peebles of Grinnell and J.D. (Justine) Peebles of Des Moines; and her great-grandchildren, Breyen Innis, Ryan Sungren, Madison Peebles and Evan Tench. Also surviving are her brother Maynard Riedemann of Omaha and her sister Ila Mae Ruppert of Griswold.
Her parents and her husband Dale preceded Ardes in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold, Fr. Bob Dufford SJ celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Section of Pleasant Township Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday and the family will meet relatives and friends at the church beginning at 10:00 AM on Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established.
