ALLAN EUGENE HINES
Allan Eugene Hines, the son of Clair and Hilda (Andersen) Hines, was born in Noble Township on June 5, 1934. He passed away February 21, 2012 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE at the age of 77 years, 8 months, and 16 days.
When Allan was two, his mother died. Several years later, his father married Elizabeth Frank. Allan attended country school near his home and then graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1951. After graduation, he began farming with his dad. He was united in marriage to Charlene Hoffman on September 11, 1955. In January of 1957 he entered the Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his service he returned home and he and Charlene moved west of Grant where they raised their three daughters. He had served as township clerk, was on the cemetery board and was a church usher.
Allan loved farming and was a good steward of the land. Feeding cattle was a highlight of farm life and there was nothing he enjoyed better than to see steers lined up to the feed bunk eating. Allan loved to travel, and he and Charlene took many trips with their dear friends Merlin and Jan Vetter. He had been in 48 states, Mexico, and numerous countries in Europe. He planned to go to Hawaii when the bridge was built. He also liked to drive fast, especially in Wyoming and the salt flats in Utah. His best ride was 130 mph in Wyoming.
Some of his favorite quotes were "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when are you going to have time to do it over?", and "The only thing worse than having too much to do is not having enough to do."
He is preceded in death by his parents and step mother.
Allan is survived by his wife Charlene of Elliott; his three daughters: Cheryl Rand of Missouri Valley, IA, Connie Frink and husband Gary of Emerson, IA, Cindy Conn and Husband Joel of Pleasant Hill, IA; his grandchildren Katie Knight and husband Tony of Fort Calhoun, NE, Jolene Troidl and husband Johnathan of Grandview, MO, Derek Frink of Omaha, NE, Allyson Conn of West Des Moines, IA, and Skylar Conn of Ames, IA; his great grandson Tyson Knight of Fort Calhoun, NE; his sister Marjorie Froom and husband Tom of Arlington, TX; and his brother-in-law Robert Hoffman of Staten Island, NY.
