Alice Catherine Shellberg, the daughter of Alphonse and Frances (Haas) Quinn, was born at Griswold, IA on April 9, 1912 and died October 10, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA at the age of 96 years, 6 months, and 1 day.
Alice attended school at Griswold, graduating with the class of 1928. On March 3, 1930 she was united in marriage to Edwin Shellberg at Red Oak. They lived south of Griswold until 1938.
Alice and Edwin moved to several different places before settling back in the Griswold area. In 1970, they retired from farming and moved in to town. Edwin died in 1989. Alice remained in Griswold until the time of her death.
Alice was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where she had been the church organist for over 25 years. She loved quilting, crocheting, knitting, and playing games with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her daughter Nancy Williams, her granddaughter Cathy Wyman, her grandsons Michael and Jeremy Shellberg and her sister Dorothy Schmalz.
She is survived by her sons and their spouses: Tom and Roberta Shellberg of Griswold, IA, Jerry and Barb Shellberg of Red Oak, IA, and Gail and Shirley Shellberg of Fort Collins, CO; 19 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Section of Pleasant Township Cemetery south of Griswold. A Rosary will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday evening at 6:30 followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 PM.
