Obituary

Ada Ellen (Pugh) Connett was born on March 26, 1923. She passed away February 6, 2016 at the age of 92 in Oakland IA.

She was born to Arthur and Effie (Linscott) Pugh near Alma, Kansas. When she was eleven months old, her parents and family moved to a farm in Cheyenne County five miles north of Wheeler, Kansas. She attended Riverside country school through the eighth grade. She then went on to St. Francis high school and graduated with the Class of 1940.

After graduation, she worked at the AAA office until she met Robert Connett. They were united in marriage on November 30, 1942. Robert soon enlisted in the Army so she travelled within the United States wherever he was stationed until he was sent overseas. To this union, two daughters were born-Carolyn Kay and Catherine Elaine.

After Robert returned home, they lived on a farm north of Bird City for several years and moved into Bird City in 1962.

Ada worked at several different jobs for the Bird City School District for seventeen years. Serving as the clerk of the board, school secretary ten years, and school district treasurer and secretary for seven years. Ada enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and friends. Living with Bob resulted in a love of horses. Most of all she could not pass up a garage sale to acquire additional treasures.

Ada is preceded in death by her husband Robert, daughter Carolyn Query, parents Arthur and Effie Pugh, four brothers Ray, Rory, Henry, Jesse, two sisters Vernie McNutt and Mary Browning, brother-in-laws Richard McNutt, Jim Browning, and sister-in-law Winnie Pugh.

Survivors include one daughter Catherine Busby and husband Darrell, one son-in-law Roland Query and wife Linda, sister-in-law Laura Pugh, three grandchildren Sheila Forrester, Justin Busby (Lesly), and Julie Busby, and four great grandchildren Shelby and Blake Busby and Reagan and Tatum Forrester, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorials are suggested either to the St. Francis Senior Center or Hospice of Southwest Iowa.

Services will be at Knodel Funeral Home, St. Francis, KS at 10:30 am Monday February 15, with grave side services at the St. Francis Cemetery.  Rieken Vieth Funeral Home   in Oakland is in charge of local arrangements.
